That it seemingly didn’t even see that as an option gives weight to just how truly terrified it must be. So yeah, in that sense, I feel bad for it, because I know that same feeling of utter helplessness.
I get laughing at your pets, it kind of comes with the territory, I mean they are always doing hilarious things, you just can’t help it…but this guy was genuinely terrified. Usually once a few seconds goes by, you really should touch whatever it is that’s scaring him (like you briefly did @1:10), but then go on to let him sniff your hand so he can tell there really isn’t another cat’s smell on you, and then reassure him with your voice, pets, or a treat. Until his body language shows he is happy again and isn’t concerned anymore. Cats really do rely on us for reassurance more than some people realize. 🐱💜🐱💜

動物は無意識に相手のリアクション(反応行動)を見て自分の対応を決めているので、
あまりに表情や動きがない同族に対し(リアルな置物やぬいぐるみや剥製など)どういった行動が正確か考え込んでしまい、その結果驚いて固まっているかのように見えてしまう現象。
目を見開いているのも、
相手の小さな動き(動いてないけど)をとらえようとしているから。まぁ嘘なんだけどね。
しかしここまでお手本のような
凝望作用は初めて見た。

以前テレビで面白い実験がありましたね。これは猿ですが、餌を持った人間の男女２人を立たせる→猿は初動で襲うフリをする→女性の方は驚き、一歩後退してしまう→次の瞬間猿は女性の方に襲いかかり、餌を奪おうとした。
動物もしっかり観察してるんだなと思いましたね。
