Because like entirely too much of modern Japanese, it’s a loanword. It’s a distortion of the Portuguese word for “balance”.

Love.Angel.MusicLady No he’s not annoyed. His tail is famous for ALWAYS swishing & twitching. 😄 His tail moves like that although he’s not annoyed.
For most cats in my experience tail twitching is a sign of being annoyed or upset. With Maru it’s hard to tell what it means.
@Cornwalum My observation is that tail twitching can be an indication of a heightening of many emotional states, including positive ones. A cat can have a multiple variety of swings, all meaning something different.
