@J. T. Are you actually serious? There were no tears when the brushing was going on, even with the brush brushing away from his face, but 5 minutes later the dust kicked in did it when he moved somewhere else?
@The Gully Don’t worry. Cats don’t shed tears of emotion. Dust from anything could have fallen into his eye and caused irritation. Maru is a very happy cat! 🙂

Maru is not crying; cats do not shed tears for emotional reasons. It was likely something in his eye. However, he could have been sad, which is why he went to be by himself.

It’s what cats do before they eat something. He humans would get licked too if they stopped moving for long enough.
When Mugumogu brushed toy cat, Maru felt rejected and sad. Sought comfort in his beloved box and turned his back on the intruder. But at end when he was brushed, he presented his tummy to show forgivenes to Mugu. Imposter cat even has nose freckle like Maru!

It’s just some irritation. Maru is a happy cat.
Most of the cats I’ve had would let me know if I was ignoring them and they wanted my attention. They’d come over and start butting in. I think Maru would let Mugumogu know if he didn’t like her brushing his doppleganger and wanted attention himself. I don’t think he minded.
