Cats are obligate carnivores, not omnivores.

First, their digestive systems are not equipped to digest large amounts of plant matter (grass, grains, etc.). A bit of cat grass won’t hurt them, but the most benefit they get out of it is fiber content which can help them throw up or pass hairballs and prevent constipation. My cat requires food with higher fiber content because she’s more easily prone to constipation without it.

Second, unlike humans and dogs, cats cannot synthesize the amino acid called taurine, which is found in animal products like meat and milk. As they cannot have milk, they require meat to acquire it. Cats with a taurine deficiency can develop dilated cardiomyopathy which is fatal if it isn’t caught early on and treated.

Third, cats require a diet that is high in protein. Protein from plant sources is shown to be of inferior quality and harder for cats to digest than what is found in meat.

Fourth, they don’t get much of any benefit at all from carbohydrates, and their systems are not good at digesting them. What they actually need is food with dense calorie contents which is best gotten from meat.

All of the above points are why vegan cat food is such a MASSIVELY bad idea and why cats ARE NOT omnivores.
