Oh dear. We have this same situation going on in our home with a rescue kitten just about Miri’s size. He’s well now and full of sass and a couple of the older cats will play but another hisses and spits at the baby. We know it will settle down in a few more weeks.
Maru was just tryin to box in peace and clearly did not have the energy to put kitten in place. Thats where hana comes in
Of course, Maru is completely unfazed throughout the whole ordeal. Classic Maru.

Maru is very Zen. Hana is Marus bodyguard. And Miri will learn the rules quickly. Hana is mothering her.

That won’t have done Miri any harm. She is learning there is a hierarchy and cat rules to live by.

A mother cat, or even siblings will do what Hana did here; a quick message of “Enough!” And from what we’ve seen, Hana has been very moderate. Maru has been been so tolerant. But Miri, like any rambunctious kitten, needs to learn to be a good companion.
You can see Miri repeatedly look over to Hana to see if she’s going too far! She understands immediately when Hana scolds her just that tiny bit. They really have their own cat social structure and a lot of emotional intelligence.
One day Miri will learn that she shouldn’t bother Maru when he is trying to be one with the box, lol
In spite of her putting a cardboard box around her middle, Hana is to be taken seriously and shown respect. Miri got socialized today and she’ll be a better cat for it.
