Miri is cuteness overload!

My little chubby cat Blue was looking around, trying to find the kitty who was crying.

At the end Miri looked like she was in a bed. Was that a bed next to Maru and Hana? They will need a larger bed if they will all sleep together. Maru and Hana barely fit in that one. Miri got so sleepy at the end.

みりちゃんはまるさんとはじゃれあう場面は見受けられるけど…
はなさんには遠慮して距離を置いてる感じかな。 逆にはなさんもみりちゃんには積極的に近づいて接する感じでもないかなぁ。みりちゃんが慣れれば3人そろって添い寝する時は来るでしょう！(*^_^*)

Cats are territorial, it’s difficult for them to accept new members. In some time, they will both like Miri, things seem to be quiet even if they were disturbed while sleeping. She is still a kitty, she has many chances to be accepted. My cat Kosuke doesn’t like at all my new cat Unmei and he’s following her to fight her even when she’s sleeping with me in bed. They are both adults. I think he need more time or a new presentation x.xu

Maru: so many women! Could you please just let a guy get some sleep!

Such sweet cats. And the markings on the kitten are spectacular!

Our older cats don’t even know how to play with each other (they’re only a few months apart and basically grew up together), and now we’ve got a kitten who’s (like Miri) very thoughtful of their space and will not bother them when they’re sleeping. Our eldest boy is very human focused and has little interest in snuggling with other cats, our eldest girl is very independent though she’d love to cuddle with her older brother if he’d allow her to. But our little girl isn’t much of a snuggler in general, not with humans or cats, she’s happy to just be nearby and play with all of us. Though, again, our older cats have no idea how to… they both have their own play style so never really played ‘together’ when they were little, and 7 years later, they just play their own way and don’t really share that much. So while the kitten would LOOOOOOVE to play with them, both older cats are like *confusion* every time she tries. The youngest kitten was also abandoned (like Miri), so we have no idea if she even grew up around cats much or has a clue how to play with other cats… Miri and our youngest are very alike, just like Hana and our middle girl cat are, they’re also all around the same age.

I have always found it interesting how Miri seems to find her tail as the source of her personal entertainment. It has made me wonder how much attention she got from her Mom.
From the start of watching her, I saw her as a Kitty who seemed “orphan-like” in her behavior. Some of the “Momma” feral cats I have helped with raising their kittens are so young, themselves, they seem to know (out of instinct) only to feed and groom their kittens. They often do that job and then leave to go play.

In my years of managing my colony of feral cats, I have noticed that it is only the older “Moms” who play and spend time loving their kittens. And, their kittens then are more playful with each other. It is as if “playing” is a “learned” behavior from Mom. I noticed even when Miri was playing with the wand toy she really wanted to “have” the toy on the wand. She didn’t seem to understand how to “play” by chasing the toy. She was very “vocal” during that “play” too, as if she was frustrated by not being able to “have” the toy. A kitten raised by a Mom who plays with her kittens is more “instinctually” playful.

I, of course, don’t know Miri’s background or anything about her Mom or how she was raised, so I am only guessing here. But I think that might also explain why she doesn’t understand about wanting to cuddle with Maru and Hana. I think you are so right to show her what cats do about cuddling and loving each other. One other thing I have noticed that the kittens who have really large “voices” like Miri develop that large voice by having to call for a Mom to come feed them when the Mom might be off somewhere playing and not really close by. Older Moms pay really close attention to their kittens and are never very far away, so the kittens almost never have to be vocal. It is also possible for even an older Mom to simply not be very interested in her kittens and find the whole job very tiring and not at all fun. Some human Moms can be like that too!

Anyway, sorry to babble on for so long. You do such a wonderful job with your 3 “kids”. It is so obvious how much you love them and how much wonderful care you give them. It is also obvious how much they love you. Thank you so much for sharing them with us. With 50 cats in the feral colony I care for, one would think I have enough to love, but I have fallen in love with your three. It is the best part of my day. I look forward to watching them each night before I go to bed.
