Maru and Hana are so adorable and cute. They are a pleasure to watch.
Even just seeing them sleeping or being lazy, is very satisfying.
And I love how Hana at one point stole the treat from the cup that Maru guessed right. So funny. 😻

@Jane Reel My guess is that she’ll be there but no one will realize it. She might want to see how many people come to view her work, but would never allow herself to be introduced. She clearly values her privacy.

Hana is actually very intelligent but she knows she’s not the alpha cat so generally will allow Maru take the lead. Given a chance to be independent we would probably find Hana would blitz the test. There was a left paw/right paw test she did for the two of them using a tall thin glass and a treat. They needed to retrieve the treat several times to demonstrate which paw was preferred and something about left and right generally coincided with male or female too. Anyway, Hana solved the problem within moments. Maru was insistent on trying to put his head into the glass. It was the first of their videos I’d ever watched that I recall. I’ve been watching ever since.

That was cute! Maru watched your hand wth the treat under the cup, every time. I loved how he picked the cup with his paw. Really cool to watch, just like the boxes. I really enjoy watching Maru and Hana do things together, and also separately. Thank you for sharing your kitties with the rest of us!!

Actually learning about relevant matters in my psych class! Apparently, cats will never be able to understand invisible displacement (if you put a reward in a bucket and show the cat, then take the reward out of the bucket while behind a screen. The can, when shown the empty bucket will not think to look behind the screen for the reward. They may get it through trial-and-error, or through other cues such as scent, but they won’t realize that the reward must have been left behind the screen.)
There’s also something similar to the shuffle game you’re doing that I read about with dogs. There’s a long board as a platform with a bucket on either end. The dog sees you put an object in one of the buckets. If the platform is rotated 90 degrees, the dog can find the object no problem. However, if the platform is rotated 180 degrees, so that it resembles its starting position, but the bucket locations are reversed, the dog will check the incorrect bucket.
This reminds me of how Maru went for the cup in the location the cup with the treats started in rather than the new location of that cup the first time.
