The answer is the weight sensor – it senses a cat 5 lbs or more and then waits 7 minutes before it begins the cleaning cycle. The default wait time is 7 minutes. However, you can change the wait time to 3, 7, or 15 minutes, so the red light will be on for as long as you have the wait time set.
