This might be the most entertaining video of a cat doing nothing. Maru is that talented.
Maru melts but enjoys the fan. My oldest cat was struggling in the extreme heat a couple of weeks ago. Ended up rushing her to the emergency vet. As soon as she was in the air conditioning she improved. Several tests & vet fee later, she was declared fine (apart from her pre existing heaven conditions that means she breaths quickly anyway). Bless her, not nice to witness.

When a solid melts, it does not become a liquid… it becomes Maru.
Kitties are very smart when it comes to being comfortable. If it hot, a fan, a sink, a bathtub, a fire place stone, a tile floor, and etc. If it’s cold, on a furnace, any heater, electric blanket, under the covers with their cold paws on your leg, sunny window, a warm wet towel, and etc. My kitties do all of the above and more.
Maru has the right idea.
In unusually hot weather, brush the backs of your cats’ ears and tummy with cool water to help their internal cooling system. If concerned about dehydration, add a little water to their wet food. Run fans with a bowl of ice in front of it. If your cat pants, they need to be in AC right away.
For Maru, pure hedonistic pleasure nothing quite matches the delightful sensation of enjoying a fan breeze so refreshing in a summer day! So funny Maru! His sumo body, spread out lazily on the floor, looks like
a fluffy carpet! Carpe diem!

When it was 118 degrees in the Pacific Northwest, six of my seven cats all wanted to lay outside in the sun. The seventh stayed inside and enjoyed the AC, smart little lady. My veterinarian told me cats are desert animals and their body temperature is normally higher than humans so they can withstand higher temperatures. Still, the ten days or so of extremely high temperatures we had here really worried me. I tried to keep them in, but they’re faster than me and kept getting out. It was a constant battle getting them back in and keeping them in. They all made it through the heat, thankfully. I’m happy Hana, Miri and Maru enjoy their cool place inside. They’re good kitties, not giving any trouble staying inside, and keeping each other company.
Hana is so curiously cute as she checks out the fan! When it starts to move away it’s almost as if she’s thinking ‘woah, where did the wind go? It was right here just a second ago!’ 😄 and of course wise Maru knows all the tricks in the book to maintain his summer cool – no season will outwit The Master!!

Looking at Maru, Hana and Kitten Miri relaxing despite the sizzling mid summer makes me feel so refreshed .
The soothing picture they make is similar to listening to wind chimes 🎐 during the summers in Japan.
Miri sweetie, what you seemed to do at the turning fan did remind me of a hooman about your age in cat years doing the same…all those years ago.

We have all seen Maru flying into boxes or on top of refrigerators. The heat is hard on humans and animals alike. Maru relaxing and chilling, so to speak is just what we all need to do.
I just want to give Maru the biggest hug ever, but then I’d just make him hotter.😅
I know: Maru envys the watermelon, so confortable in the ice basin. Yet, it’s pleasant and refreshing to see the three of them so peaceful and contented.🏖 Careful, Miri, you are too bold, and we love your whiskers too much !!!

Cats are typically like heat-seeking meowing missiles – if a thing generates heat, the cat sits on it. You know the weather is scorching when even the kitties go lounging under the cooling fan.
Even in the debilitating summer heat, somehow, someway, Maru’s tail continues to be the most proactive thing in the room.
His most esteemed royal highness Maru is behaving as he has for over a decade, however in comparison to princess Miri, he appears lazier than usual.
As Maru directs the fan to cool his bits, Miri is in repose in two places…so demure. 🌺💙🌻
