MARU is a very frugal and simple cat. He only needs a piece of plastic bag, a paper box, and his mother’s love.

This is just intuition from watching so many cats in my colony, but what I think is that Miri is competing with Maru as part of her growth into full adulthood. She probably doesn’t yet understand that competition with Maru, the male, is pointless, but it is her first attempt, which she will, of course, lose. I don’t think Hana will even engage with her in any sort of competition, so this will be her only adult challenge. When she realizes that Maru is King, she will happily adjust to her role as 2nd to Hana. Fun to watch her using all of her mind and skills in this competition. What clued me into this was noticing that Maru seems annoyed at her now. The only reason Maru would be annoyed with her is sensing some kind of challenge. Up until now, she has been the clueless, baby kitten; just something to ignore when misbehaving. But her challenges now are more direct….in his face challenges. I think she will give up rather quickly in the not-too-distant future.

I wonder if Miri will soon become a udon maker. She has an excellent instructor.

I didn’t know that Mogumogu had written a book adout Maru. I found “I am Maru”, and it came today. Oh, the photos are so cute. It’s an adorable book. I hope book two comes out in the English language also. The text tells both sides of his story.

What a little peeper my Miri is. I know she’s trying to learn how to make udon but not sure if Maru likes a crowd. That’s his personal and private thing he does.

This is totally unique!! Maru is the only cat I have ever seen who makes Udon noodles with both front AND back paws. This raises Udon noodle making to an Olympic sport. Which is only proper because Maru gets all the gold – at least from me! Thats a 10 – 10 – 10 – 10 – 10 score from all judges.
